The Hickory Metro Sports Commission was founded in 2000 to promote the growth of sports development in the Hickory Metro area.

Hickory Motor Speedway

The purpose of the Commission is to foster economic growth through the development of sports events in Catawba, Caldwell, Burke and Alexander County, and to recognize and celebrate the sports heritage of Catawba County by establishing and maintaining the Catawba County Sports Hall of Fame.
